Doug ’63 and Mary (Bjornson) Brown ’63 recently revised their wills to include a gift to Linfield. Doug is professor emeritus of English (program in teaching English to speakers of other languages) at San Francisco State University. Mary’s career focused on counseling and support groups for the elderly, retiring from her position as director of resident and social services at Piedmont Gardens Retirement Community in Oakland.
Stephen '69 and Mary Jane Ott have recently included a gift to Linfield College in their estate plan. With this gift, they will create an endowed scholarship fund to benefit students in Linfield's nursing program. Stephen is recently retired from a career in the ministry that included teaching and vocational counseling, and Mary Jane is an advanced practice nurse specializing in pain and symptom management and complementary care.
It could be said that Dr. Winthrop "Win" Dolan had a servant's heart. He served Linfield College, the church and the community with good humor and joy. His life was filled with examples of service, including mentoring young people, singing in the church choir, acting in plays and offering advice to college graduates. His lifetime of service touched thousands of people in countless ways.
Linfield College has always held an important place in our hearts. We met there as a freshman and sophomore, began dating and became engaged at the end of two years. Our daughter and son-in-law also met at Linfield 20 years later, thus we have a very sentimental connection. More important, however, is the fact that we both got a very good education that prepared us for careers that have been most satisfying.
Drannan Hamby '55 and his wife, Bev (Reinhart) '54, have been affiliated with Linfield for more than 60 years as students, athletes, alumni, parents and faculty. Drannan taught physics, chemistry and Outdoor Environmental Studies in the Cascades during his 40 years of teaching at Linfield. Their children, Mark '76 and Marcy Hamby-Towns '85, are also loyal alumni.
